Blogger Theresa came to BottomSlim with one problem: Cellulite.
Cellulite is a skin condition that appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it the dimpled, lumpy appearance. The most noticeable ones appear on the buttocks and thighs and appear as early as post-puberty. Theresa was a rather petite girl but still faced lower body concerns near the thigh area. Specialists say that cellulite may affect up to 90% of women at some point in their lives. With her busy schedule, toning at the gym was simply not an option. That’s too unglam. She wanted instant results to look good!!!
Like many young women her age, she dreamt of smaller thighs she could flaunt. That ‘orange peel effect’ is ugly and arrests even the most beautiful women among us with insecurities we don’t need!
What they call "Orange Peel" |
- Hormonal – many believe that estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones and prolactin are what produce cellulite. Changes in the level of these can initiate and aggravate cellulite
- Genetics – don’t just blame on your mother! It’s probably passed on from generations before. Some genes are predisposed to cause cellulite development. Gender, race, slow metabolism, fat distribution just underneath the skin and insufficient circulation are all factors in this.
- Circulation – cellulite is more likely to appear in areas of your body that get very little energising movement and skin warming. Sitting for long hours causes fat deposits to take its place on inner and outer thigh areas.
- Diet - people who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fibre are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
- Lifestyle factors - cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.
- Clothing - underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the formation of cellulite.
Why is cellulite such a common problem even for skinny girls?
The real cause is largely not well understood. There are several theories, however, that attempt to explain the cause.
