BottomSlim | Am I doomed to have Cellulite Forever?

Fat tends to accumulate in the body with age, although there are interesting differences based on genetics and gender. Hormones drive the deposition of fat around the pelvis, buttocks, and thighs of women. For women, this so-called gender-specific fat appears to be physiologically advantageous, at least during pregnancies. But it has a cosmetic downside as well.

How Cellulite Forms

Take Blogger Miyake from MyFatPocket for example. She came to BottomSlim for help when she was increasingly frustrated that time in the gym didn’t seem to tone up her thighs and buttocks and worst still, there seemed no way of getting rid of ugly stretch marks and cellulite.

Unfortunately, gender has a big role to play in this atrocity. Throughout most of their lives, females like Miyake, have a higher percentage of body fat than males. In a Scientific American journal study, research shows that during the adolescent growth spurt, the rate of fat increase in girls almost doubles that of boys. It is marked by more and larger fat cells, and it is seen mostly in the gluteal-femoral area—pelvis, buttocks and thighs—and, to a much lesser extent, in the breasts. Mostly attributed to changes in female hormone levels.

Most women between ages 20-50, struggle with the task to shed fat from these regions than to trim down other areas of the body. Cellulite appears as body fat is gained and more of it is packed into existing cells. (New cells are not normally formed after adolescence.) These packed cells then swell and, when large enough, become visible through the skin. Adding insult to injury, as the skin gets thinner and less flexible with age, the puffed-up fat cells become even more visible.

What other treatments are there besides surgery?

Fortunately, there is help available for general cellulite loss, along with a sensible diet and regular exercise, which can reduce the effect. There are three treatable components of cellulite: You have to address the collagen; you have to reduce the fat, and you have to increase circulation.

But it depends on the grade of cellulite you have. There are four grades, ranging from zero to three:
  • Grade zero: If no visible cellulite.
  • Grade one: If you pinch the skin and see a cottage cheese–like texture.
  • Grade two: If cellulite is visible on the legs of someone standing.
  • Grade three: If you see cellulite when you look in the mirror or lie down, usually termed "terminal," because it's very hard to treat, although the good news is that it is not fatal.
Special machines to treat cellulite help to break up the fat. When you're vacuuming and rolling [the skin], you're increasing circulation, and the heat helps to break down the fat, which smoothes out the skin. These type of machines will help to break down the stubborn fats, reduce cellulite and water retention. As a result of consistent treatment, you will start to see a slim and sexy lower bottom with less visible cellulite.
